The Periodic Table is one of the best known scientific charts in the world. It is comprised of all known elements and their relevant information. School children all the way up to highly celebrated scientists regard this table with a sense of respect. For most people, however, carrying around a full chart with the current information somehow attached is a comical idea. Luckily, the Periodic Table application does away with the need for a physical copy of the elements.

Comprised of the table, graphs, a search function, and atomic structures, this program is the full table and more. It combines incredible search functionality with a veritable encyclopedic listing of all known elements. On the home page, choosing the element yields its name, weight, group number, group type, color, natural state, and a listing of other pieces of information including who discovered it and where it is found in the natural world. The search function allows you to search by element as well as discoverer or atomic number to find definitions or descriptions. The graph is interactive in that you can choose an element and look at visual data of various comparisons like the melting point in Kelvin of Chlorine and Bromine. The atomic structure shows a picture of the layout of all the electrons for each element while the atomic radius compares the sizes of two elements. Media reveals images of the elements as they would appear in nature with a full set of 126 images.

With its excessive itemization of the elements, their discoverers, and other pieces of biographic information, the Periodic Table is a phenomenal resource for anyone in need of an interactive table. Though free, it is far from quick to understand. With so much information, the creators have done their best to organize the search features in such a way that it is easy to look through. In the end, it is easy to use but hard to master. However, if you plan on spending a lot of time with the periodic table, this is a great program to start with if only for the visual dictionary. Unfortunately, it does not update regularly, meaning the information can change without any warning. With all the information you could possibly need contained in one program, it is well worth the risk.
